THE ORGANISATION HAS ALSO ANNOUNCED THE LAUNCH OF THE CINECIMAS PROJECT, PART OF THE EU POCTEFA PROGRAMME, WHICH WILL RUN THROUGH 2028
The Huesca International Film Festival has officially confirmed that its 55th edition will take place from June 4 to 12, 2027. As the longest-running film festival in Aragon, announcing these dates well in advance allows filmmakers and industry professionals to organise their production schedules and submit their work for consideration in the Official Selection.
The festival awards more than €25,000 in prize money, with its three prestigious Danzante Awards presented in the International, Ibero-American and Documentary competitions. These awards are recognised by both the Goya Awards and The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, making them Oscar® qualifying distinctions.
“Short films and their creators are the reason we exist, which is why we announce our dates as early as possible. Behind every film there are many people, deadlines, logistics and administrative processes that need to be coordinated in order to reach Huesca on time. We owe it to them, and having a clear timetable is essential,” explains Rasal.
CINECIMAS: A CROSS-BORDER PROJECT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE PYRENEES
The Huesca International Film Festival Foundation has also confirmed the implementation of CINECIMAS (Cinema at the Service of Cross-Border Territorial Development), a project developed together with Le Parvis, Scène Nationale Tarbes-Pyrénées, within the framework of the Interreg POCTEFA 2021–2027 Programme.
With a total budget of €589,420.50, including €383,123.33 in ERDF funding, the initiative aims to use cinema as a tool for cooperation, economic development and territorial promotion by connecting culture, tourism and communities on both sides of the Pyrenees.
The project will run from 1 September 2026 to 31 December 2028, focusing on two strategic areas: promoting cultural touring and sustainable film tourism, and creating a professional audiovisual network linking the territories involved.
CINECIMAS will lay the foundations for a cross-border film route, an open-air cinema circuit across Pyrenean towns, a new festival centred on border identities and crossings, seminars, professional meetings, a digital map of audiovisual resources and events, scouting missions, and audiovisual creation residencies.
The project is supported by a range of partner institutions, including the Government of Aragon, the Provincial Council of Huesca, Hoya de Huesca County Council, Huesca City Council, Aragón TV and the Saint-Lary Tourist Office.
