International Short Film Contest 54 ED. 2026

Belgium 2025 16' Fiction
Lena, a fifty-year-old prisoner at the end of her sentence, is confronted with her life after prison. With the help of Aurélien, the social worker in charge of her follow-up, she visits her future apartment. But her first steps in the outside world are torn by this long-awaited and dreaded release. Lena tries to find her bearings in a place where everything reminds her how difficult it has become for her to live outside a 9 m2 cell.

Amélie Navarro, Gaëtan D’Agostino
Amélie Navarro and Gaëtan d’Agostino met on the set of Contre-Courant in 2014 and immediately wanted to start a project together. Gaëtan is an actor and director who writes and directs for both theatre and film. Amélie is a writer and director working in both literature and film. Their shared interest lies in exploring rehabilitation and the lives of women in prison. Drawing on Gaëtan’s workshops in Belgian prisons and Amélie’s participation in round-table discussions at the “National Prison Days,” this interest gradually evolved into a story. And thus, Past Beyond was born.
