She holds a PhD in Ethnology from the EHESS (Paris) and degrees in Geography and History and Cultural Anthropology from the Complutense University of Madrid.
She was the founder and director for 22 editions of the Tarifa-Tangier African Film Festival (FCAT), a leading competitive festival devoted to African cinema and its diaspora. She also founded the African Film Dissemination and Documentation Laboratory (University of Seville), which includes more than 1,500 films subtitled into Spanish, as well as Cinenómada, a non-commercial distribution platform that since 2006 has collaborated with more than 1,000 film series and showcases.
She is the founder of the Badila Cultural Association and director of the festival IndóMita. Film and Culture Showcase, a landmark cultural project in the La Vera region (Cáceres) that brings together cinema, music, performing arts, and visual arts.
She has served on juries at numerous international festivals and on committees evaluating film projects worldwide. She has received the Life Achievement Award from the Nigerian film industry.
She is also a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic.
