PORTUGAL WILL BE A CORE ARTISTIC THEME OF THE 54TH EDITION, HELD FROM JUNE 5 TO 13.
PORTUGUESE DESIGN STUDIO R2DESIGN CREATED THE OFFICIAL POSTER, WHICH PLAYS WITH CELLULOID MOTIFS AND THE COLORS OF THE PORTUGUESE FLAG.

The 54th Huesca International Film Festival is beginning its preparations for the June event. The festival announced that Portugal will be the “Guest Country” for 2026, a role that will influence the programming transversally through guests, tributes, and special screenings. “It is important to strengthen cultural ties with our neighbors; we firmly believe that many synergies can be generated, and this decision seeks to support those convictions. We want Huesca and its festival to be reference points for any agent in the global film industry,” stated Estela Rasal, Director of the HIFF.
The first connection with Portugal presented by Aragon’s longest-running film event is its poster. Designed by R2Design, it is based on the formal similarity between the letter “H” (for Huesca) and the connection of two consecutive film frames. Within this framework, two other elements are integrated: a floor plan of a cinema auditorium that once belonged to the grandfather of Lizá Défossez Ramalho (one of the image’s creators) in France—”introducing the dimension of memory, archive, and lived experience,” according to the studio—and a color palette of green, red, and yellow, referencing the Portuguese flag.

R2Design is composed of designers and artists Lizá Défossez Ramalho and Artur Rebelo, whose work has earned global recognition for innovative projects that redefine the boundaries of design. Founded in 1995, the studio works with cultural institutions and commercial clients across culture, lifestyle, and industry. Their multidisciplinary nature has led them to projects ranging from signage for the Douro River dam (with Souto de Moura-Architects) to the complex graphic identity for the Museu do Porto (comprising over 14 locations). Recent works include branding for Évora 2027 (European Capital of Culture) and Vhils Studio.
Ramalho (PhD from the University of Barcelona) and Rebelo (PhD from the University of Coimbra) have received numerous international awards, including the Grand Prix of the Brno Biennial and honors from the International Society of Typographic Designers and the Society for Experiential Graphic Design. Their work is held in permanent collections at the Museum für Gestaltung (Zurich), the Museum of Modern Art (Toyama), and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris). Both have been members of AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale) since 2007, an organization representing the world’s elite designers.
