Spain 2023 18' Fiction Debut
Two best friends, Abril and Yula (8), perform a ritual to make it rain. Upon seeing the rain, they believe they have magic and attempt to do the same to make a disliked classmate, Carmela, disappear. The next day, Carmela doesn’t show up to school, and Abril y Yula vow to never speak of it. As their secret weighs on them, Abril must confront Yula’s betrayal and decide the fate of their friendship.

Karen Joaquín
Karen is a 29-year-old Dominican film director and analog photographer. With the help of a scholarship, she studied film direction in Barcelona. Her short film May lLghtning Strike me Down is part of the lineup winners at the 56th edition of the Sitges International Film Festival, winning the award for the Best Screenplay and a Special Mention in the Nova Autoria SGAE section. In 2022, she won the ICEC grant for the production of her upcoming short film, Juanita.
