Sudan – Qatar 2020 20' Fiction
In a cotton-farming village in Sudan, 15-year-old Nafisa has a crush on Babiker, but her parents have arranged her marriage to Nadir, a young Sudanese businessman living abroad. Nafisa’s grandmother, Al-Sit, the powerful village matriarch, has her own plans for Nafisa’s future. But can Nafisa choose for herself?

Freelance writer, researcher and filmmaker focused on the Arab world. She studied communication and museums and is the author of several books and scholarly articles. With a multicultural origin, Sudanese and Russian, she is interested in stories that speak about the complexity of identities. She is also a screenwriter, director and producer of several short films, such as Caravan and Hind’s Dream.
