The 53rd Huesca International Film Festival is gearing up to host one of the most prestigious short film festivals in the world from June 6 to 14. The 2025 edition will feature an official image created by Italian designer Silvana Amato, inspired by the Etna wooden typeface. Designed by the Meneghello e Belluzzo foundry around 1932 in Porto Legnago, a small town in northeastern Italy, this typeface serves as the foundation of the poster. “Its shapes are unique and recognizable, and when taken out of context, they seem to come to life, resembling film characters or animated objects. This effect is heightened by the frame present in the poster, which mimics a screen or film projection,” explains the creator. The typeface is preserved in the Tipoteca Italiana Fondazione, but some numbers, including 5 and 3, are missing. This prompted Amato to reinterpret the alphabet specifically for this occasion.

Silvana Amato
Silvana Amato is a designer and professor at ISIA, one of Italy’s top design schools, and serves as the president of AGI Italia (International Graphic Alliance), an organization that brings together the world’s most prominent designers, boasting over 500 members from 47 countries. Esteemed figures like Javier Mariscal, Stefan Sagmeister, Paula Scher, and Isidro Ferrer are members. Ferrer, a patron of the Huesca Film Festival Foundation and creator of several award-winning festival posters, also advises on the selection of the official image designer for each edition.
The creation of the poster marks the first connection forged by the festival after selecting Italy as the “Country of Honor.” This initiative, successfully introduced two editions ago, has previously spotlighted Argentina and France. The festival’s leadership aims to pay tribute to a country so deeply intertwined with cinema, consistently ranking among the most represented in annual short film submissions. Huesca has welcomed prominent Italian figures such as the Taviani brothers (Luis Buñuel Award, 2007) and representatives of major Italian film festivals like Giffoni, Lecce, and Concorto.
