HOW TO PRODUCE CINEMA FROM THE GROUND UP: THE SHORT FILM
WEDNESDAY 14th JUNE - 11H - Blue Room of the Casino of Huesca
Masterclass aimed at our short filmmakers, as well as anyone in the audiovisual industry with an interest in the subject. The objective is to provide tools and practical knowledge to the attendees when approaching a film project in our country (advantages of shooting in Spain, financing, production landscape, differences with other countries…).
The session will be moderated by producer and director Gaizka Urresti and will feature a keynote speaker, Valérie Delpierre, producer and creator of Inicia Films. It will also feature Natalia Martínez, Head of Content at Aragón TV and member of the Aragón Film Commission organization, Silvia Anoro, Deputy Director General for the Promotion of the Film and Audiovisual Industry (ICAA) at the Ministry of Culture, and the special attendance of Lucrecia Cardoso, Secretary of Cultural Development at the Ministry of Culture of Argentina.
VALÉRIE DELPIERRE
In 2006, Valerie created Inicia Films with the aim of developing projects by new talents and focusing on their international projection. Since then, she has produced a large number of fiction feature films, documentaries, and short films. Recently, she premiered the fiction feature film 20,000 Species of Bees directed by Estibaliz Urresola at the Berlinale, which was awarded the Silver Bear for Best Performance and received two Biznaga Awards (Best Film and Best Performance) at the Málaga Film Festival. Her most relevant recent projects are: The Maternal by Pilar Palomero, Singing on the Rooftops by Enric Ribes, Schoolgirls by Pilar Palomero (her directorial debut), One for All by David Ilundain, and Summer 1993 by Carla Simón.
Upcoming releases include Unicornios by Àlex Lora and Teresa by Paula Ortiz. Additionally, Inicia Films is currently developing new projects such as The Glitter by Pilar Palomero, La Paca by David Ilundain, the international co-production Reinas by Klaudia Reynicke, the new feature film by Borja Cobeaga titled Los Aitas, and their first animated project Barracuda’s Treasure by Adrià Garcia.
NATALIA MARTÍNEZ OLIVÁN
She holds a degree in Communication Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Until late 2005, she pursued her professional career at TVE-Aragón, where she worked as a journalist, news and program presenter, news director, and deputy director. She was part of the founding team of Aragón TV. From the beginning of the channel’s broadcasts until 2011, she coordinated the news services of the regional network. From 2012 until June 2021, she was responsible for the content at Aragón TV. Currently, she heads the Department of Audiovisual Promotion and New Projects. She is an associate professor at the University of Zaragoza and a doctoral candidate. She is also a member of the Spanish Television Academy.
SILVIA ANORO
Deputy Director General for the Promotion of the Film and Audiovisual Industry at the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA) since November 2018. She joined the ICAA in November 2010, initially as the head of the File Evaluation Service, and from 2012 until 2018, as a technical advisor, always within the Deputy Director General for Promotion.
LUCRECIA CARDOSO
She holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Buenos Aires. She began her career in public policy management in the Cabinet of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2003. At the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts, she served as the Manager of Federal Action, then Vice President, and finally President from 2014 to 2015. She also worked as the Executive Director of the Observatory of the Audiovisual and Infocommunications Sector and was one of the compilers of the book “Políticas y producción audiovisual en la era digital en América Latina” (Policies and Audiovisual Production in the Digital Age in Latin America). Currently, she is in charge of the Secretariat of Cultural Development under the Ministry of Culture of Argentina.
GAIZKA URRESTI
He holds a degree in Communication Sciences from UPV/EHU and has a career spanning over 30 years as a producer, screenwriter, director, professor, and cultural manager in both film and television.
He has directed 16 short films that have received over 100 national and international awards, including the Goya Award for Best Fiction Short Film in 2014 for Abstenerse agencias (Agency Not Allowed). He has also directed five feature films, with the last two being Aute retrato (2019), nominated for the Goya and Forqué Awards, and Labordeta: Un hombre sin más, co-directed with Paula Labordeta, which has garnered over 30,000 viewers in theaters and won the Goya and Forqué Awards.
As a producer, he has produced 37 short films and 11 feature films, including Incierta gloria (Uncertain Glory, 2017) directed by Agustí Villaronga, and Goya 3 de mayo (Goya May 3rd, 2021) directed by Carlos Saura.
He has been a professor at the University of San Jorge and CPA in Zaragoza, and has conducted a large number of workshops in Spain and abroad.
