Join us for a thought-provoking roundtable discussion featuring several guests as they explore the world of filmmaking in Spain and France. This engaging conversation will delve into the advantages, challenges, differences, and commonalities of filmmaking for women in both Spain and France, encompassing the creative process, production, and distribution of films created by women.
As we exchange insights and perspectives, we’ll gain a deeper understanding of the industry across borders, with a particular focus on women’s experiences within diverse social and cultural contexts. This enriching encounter will provide a platform for learning and unlearning from the experiences of these exceptional filmmakers from our two sister nations.
Odile Méndez-Bonito
After working for several years as a screenwriter (Antena 3, TVE, Telemadrid), the Asturian Odile Méndez-Bonito moved to France in 2005, where she made documentaries and participated in several collective film ventures. In 2013, she founded the production company Corpus Films to support projects with artistic and political commitment. She is also the head of the master’s program in documentary writing and directing, CREADOC, at the University of Poitiers.
Patricia Roda
She studied film directing at the CECC (Barcelona). She has worked as a production manager and executive producer on various fiction films and documentaries, including Fleta tenor mito, Marcelino, the best clown in the world, and Cineclub (Gaudí Award for Best Production Management 2010). As a director, she won the Silver Biznaga at the 2015 Malaga Film Festival for her documentary El viaje de las reinas, and in 2014 she participated in the Seminci in the DOC. España section. In 2022, she returned to the Seminci with Kautela, el fotógrafo. She is the second vice president of CIMA (Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media Professionals) and a member of the Spanish Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences.
Mirella R. Abrisqueta
With a degree in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Navarra, she is a director, screenwriter, and producer. A founding partner of the production company Sintregua Comunicación, she has directed and written documentaries such as El olvido del mar, Cazando lo invisible, and La mujer que soñaba con números. She has also created and directed programs for Aragón TV, such as Lo tuyo es puro teatro, En ruta con la ciencia, and Agujero de gusano. She has won the Santa Isabel de Portugal Screenwriting Award and the Association of the Aragonese Press Award. She is a member of the ACA, belongs to the CLADA Board of Directors, and is a member of CIMA.
