LOS CINEASTAS, EUROPA RETRATADA
50 portraits of European filmmakers taken by photographer Óscar Fernández Orengo. Half of them represent Spanish filmmakers portrayed in spaces and places of their choice. The collection includes names such as Bigas Luna, Josefina Molina, Víctor Erice, Rodrigo Sorogoyen and Belén Funes. The remaining 25 represent filmmakers from other European countries; among them Béla Tarr, Agnès Varda, Theo Angelopoulos, Roy Andersson, Pedro Costa and Mia Hansen-Løve.
Part of Fernández Orengo’s great work on cinema has already been exhibited worldwide, with series such as Through my eyes, Filmmakers portraits, and Everyday Scenes.
Fernández Orengo usually works with a Hasselblad X-Pan and prefers black and white because “it gives versatility in any light condition as opposed to color, which is more plastic.” He confesses that his series brings together “a life project which I started fifteen years ago, based on the creation of an exhaustive and unique photographic archive of Catalan, Spanish and Latin American film directors of different generations.”
