For over twelve years, Huesca Film Festival has included in each of its editions one or two events inspired by the relationship between gastronomy and cinema. The presence of food and drinks in the stories told by films exists from the very beginning of cinema, as before in literature, but it seems that nowadays there is a trend to emphasize this presence over other similar aspects, using it to give significance to the story, to the characters or the setting. Sometimes that presence, that relationship becomes an extremely important element even to the extent of acquiring a real prominence in the plot. In any case it is always pleasant to celebrate and enjoy cinema and gastronomy.
This year the banquet organized by the Festival is based on a documentary film which has won the recognition of the critics and in several festivals, a film directed by José Luis López Linares about the schemings suffered by a cooker along his preparation and training to elaborate three dishes based on three products imposed by the organizers of a world contest to choose the best cooker, three products that give title to the film –The chicken, the fish and the deep sea red crab– and also the contest itself organized and directed from his French throne by the very king of cooking, Paul Bocuse.
The fact of being a documentary film and not a fiction story enriches the film and turns it into a testimony about this kind of contests and also about the sacrifice and the high cost paid for the cookers who enter these competitions, apart from being an account of the atmosphere and the universe behind this kind of events.

Jesús Almagro was a happy man when awarded Spain’s National Award as Best Cook 2007. His next challenge was to compete for the World Championship, the Bocuse d’Or… He thought he was up to the challenge, that preparing it was a matter of time and skills. He was definitively not ready for what lied ahead.
