IN COLLABORATION WITH:

The production of short films in Uruguay has a long tradition, which has grown continuously from 2000, thanks to film schools, independent production companies and cultural institutions that support the production of fiction, documentary and animation works, including a little but significant niche for experimental projects and video art.

This phenomenon is part of the general explosion in the production of Uruguayan cinema that occurred in the last decade, which has changed from sporadic feature films to ten premieres in movie theatres in 2008.

Every year over fifty short films in several formats, from 35 mm. to miniDV, show a vitality, diversity and quality which have allowed them to achieve various awards at several international festivals.

The present selection is only a general panorama of the present moment of Uruguayan short film, focusing in the production of the last five years (2003-2008), with the presence of some of the most outstanding works made by some new filmmakers, among them Federico Veiroj and Adrián Biniez, who have already made their debut in feature film successfully. The selection tries to be representative of various trends, styles and genres, although it is, of course, incomplete and partial. Anyway, the works gathered are a good introduction to help us know the new generations boosting the incipient production of Uruguayan cinema.

Frank Pinkus is a survivor of Holocaust in Poland who, seventy years later, travels with his trumpet along a railway track that could be the same that led to the concentration camp, establishing a bridge between his dark past and his new home in Uruguay, where he took refuge.

In a day as any other, Antunez’s office receives a box with no addressee or sender. That afternoon, Antunez goes on a short trip and entrusts the new workmate, Lontegui, to look after the box.
