A metaphor for transition of migrants who left their old life behind and who haven't reached what they have been dreaming of. The focus of the film is Nouhadibou, or Hotel Sahara in Mauretania, a transit location for thousands of immigrants on their way to Europe. Travellers from Sub-Saharan countries arrive in this melting pot which has been a platform of human traffic for centuries. Located between the past and the future, this film offers an intimate inside look into this place of waiting, of hope, of unfulfilled dreams, of invented and true stories, of double identities.

She was born in 1969. She studied African Languages and Political Sciences in Hamburg and Paris. She was a producer for Egoli Films/Berlin and Wueste Film/Hamburg and lived and work in Niger/Africa. Each night the only border crossing between India and Pakistan on a 1000 km stretch becomes the sight of an extraordinary event. Thousands of people gather to witness the ritual closing of the border, after which the masses get as close as possible to the gate to greet their former neighbours. This “festival“ is therefore on the one hand a celebration of the partition, but on the other hand also the only connecting element. What do the terms separation, home and proximity mean to the people on both sides?
He lives and works as a scriptwriter and director in Kolkata and New Delhi. His previous works include documentaries: Way Back Home (2003) and Hope Dies Last (2006). Wagah (2009) is the last and final part of his trilogy about the separation of India and Pakistan. He is currently working on his first feature film together with his French co-producer and Detailfilm.

In Waldenburg, situated in the Lower Silesian Coalfield, all mines are closed down. Lukasz and his elder friend Jacek have been digging coal at their own risk for several years now. Like hundreds of other former miners, they are illegally digging for the black gold on the outskirts of their city. The local police are constantly after them. The miners have also been trapped in the tunnels several times. But they keep going.
He was born in 1972 in Aachen, Germany. He studied visual and media film at the Ecole Superieure d’Art Visuel Geneve and then at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg. He directed documentaries and short films, movies for tv and animations. In 2008 he has co-written and co-directed together with Andreas Gräfenstein the documentary film Was übrig bleibt.
He was born in 1975 in Bernburg, Germany. He studied Philosophy and History of the Arts and then Visual and Media Film at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg. He worked as a scriptwriter for Deutsche Welle Tv and as line producer for NDR and ARTE Tv. In 2008 he has co-written and co-directed together with Fabian Daub the documentary film Was übrig bleibt.

Through the reading of a witness declaration, ‘10 min.’ narrates how a young girl winds up in a prostitution ring.

Roger is an eighty-year-old voluntary barber in a centre for homeless persons in Montreal. A particular relationship sets in between Roger and his clients. They talk about the cold, the street, illness, women... and haircut. And about the importance, for those men, of a gesture, a human contact and a good hair cut.

Ethiopia, July 2007, three months before the start of the Ethiopian millennium. Hagere Selam, a small village in the northern highlands of Ethiopia. The students of grade 10 just finished their final exam. The result will be so important that it will change their lives. If they pass, they can go to the city of Mekelle. So also Tsega, if she passes and her mother lets her go, she can study in Mekelle. If she fails she has to stay in the village, marry and get children. Just like her older sisters.
He didn’t study in any film school, but has a huge interest for photography and film. Thanks to the Flemish filmfund, Belgian Cooperative, Off World and Rolf Orthel (Bert Haanstra), he could make his first documentary in 2008, My future. The premiere in Belgium and Ethiopia was a huge success. He attended the Idfa academy and the Berlinale talent Campus.

Josig Jurg lives in the district of Tetuán in Madrid. Josif likes going down to the street and sing. One morning, while Josif is singing, a hen escapes from a nearby farm.
A bachelor of History (Universidad Complutense de Madrid). He has worked as a school teacher, archivist and publisher. He is the founder and publisher of “Vera. Revista de poesía”. In 2006 he coproduced El viaje de Said, an animation short film directed by Coke Rioboo (“Premio Goya 2007”). A la sierra de Armenia, his first film as a director, is an outline or rough draft of the feature film La ruina de Jerusalén, presently in production.

Through the eyes of the dancer and choreographer Ana Continente we get to know the stories of several women who have suffered violence at the hands of men in Guatemala and their risky fight to break the wall of impunity. Their testimonies and those of their relatives reveal the scale of these crimes which cost the lives of 500 women every year in that country.

In Albania, Luce's son was murdered. At the end of a personal and spiritual journey, the mother forgives today the assassin, further to the "Besa" of the traditional Kanun law. The “Forgiven” considers Luce from then on as his own mother, and he's rehabilitated. Luce as now become an ombudsman and helps other families to refuse Blood justice.
After studies of arts, production and writing, she became a screenwriter and co-screenwriter of several films, including La rose au puits and D'abondance. Together with Turi Finocchiaro she wrote and directed several films including Plein ciel (2004), Yiddish Soul (2004), Concert Yiddish Soul (2004), Anima Klezmer (2006), and Au-Delà de la Vengeance - La Besa de Luce (2008).
He started his professional activity after a technical and artistic training both in direction teams and executive production. Together with Nathalie Rossetti she wrote and directed several films including Plein ciel (2004), Yiddish Soul (2004), Concert Yiddish Soul (2004), Anima Klezmer (2006), and Au-Delà de la Vengeance - La Besa de Luce (2008).

Nobert, who emigrated to Portugal 10 years ago, originating from the Amazonas region, Ji-Parana formulate his personal experiences of his migration and his new environment using cinematographic possibilities. Nobert has learnt the art of painting of Portuguese tiles, the "azulejos" with which he earns his living until today. Through Nobert’s painting, he tries to take up contact with his distant family.
Born in 1978. From 1998 to 2000 he studied photography and video at Szellemkép College. Between 2000 and 2002 he studied at Kodolányi János College at Székesfehérvár, Faculty of Communication. This documentary, shot on four continents, presents the hidden face of our planet and the general and moral crisis of our world. We can follow the various, irrational stages of defencelessness as the characters in all seven stories, all minors, accept their fate with quasi humility. The appalling everyday life of child labourers, child prostitutes and child soldiers is revealed to us in Congo, Cambodia and Ecuador.
He was born in Debrecen in 1960. In 1982 graduated from the Debrecen Teacher Training College. From 1982 to 1986 worked as an assistant director at Pannonia Film studios. From 1987 to 1990 he studied at the Budapest Academy of Drama and Film. He first graduated as a documentary then as a feature film-director. Spent a year at the Paris Film School Louis Lumière. He taught creative documentary at the Lóránd Eötvös University in Budapest. She is an Irish director and scriptwriter. She has previously directed a number of documentaries for TG4 and RTE including Singles, Real Men Don’t Wear Togs, The Beauty Room and The Last Tango. Water Bodies (2008) is her latest documentary film so far.

A road-movie about Mansour's voyage into the world of Islam. It is a personal voyage in a world of taboos, full of contradictory images. He searches the question of faith and gender in Islam and he wants to collect the unusual stories of Muslim gays. Mansour is a homosexual Iranian refuge and pharmacist; he has been living in Oslo for 18 years. Now he wants to travel back to Istanbul, where he lived two years before he got asylum in Norway.
Born in 1964 in Ankara, Turkey, she is a Turkish Norwegian film director living in Norway. She has a B. A. in political science (Bosphorous University, Istanbul, Turkey) and a M.A in Media and Communication (University of Oslo). In addition to making films, she has also written several books. In 2008 she has written and directed the documentary film Gender me.

Our senses recall memories, excites desires, intensifies feelings, accelerates the heart beat. Each of the five protagonists of this film is obsessed by a special sensibility of his senses. A blind man, a music composer, a cook, an astronomer and a homicides investigator. Through their eyes, ears, nose, tongue and taste the film gets into their minds, and explores their creativity and passions.
She was born in Brazil at the state of Minas Gerais where she graduated in Radio and Television Communications at the University of Juiz de Fora, Brazil. For one and a half year she worked at the radio and as a independent video maker. After making several short movies she decided to study cinema in Amsterdam. In 2006 she graduated at the Dutch Film and Television Academy in Amsterdam with the short documentary Zo is dat (The way it is). She has also directed: Kopzorgen (2003), Diamanda (2004) Le monde et nous (2004-2006) and Deuren Naar De Ziel (2008).

In 2006 in the Art School in Kabul a film course “Kabul – My City” was held. Students were given cameras and professional help from a young polish director Jacek Szaranski. And no more than that. They themselves came up with the ideas what they want their films to be about, and in what way they would show Kabul. They trained their lenses on their closest surrounding – neighbour’s children, ubiquitous kites and themselves.
Born in 1969 in Katowice, she studied literature at the local university, then directing (film and theatre) for three years. She soon demonstrated her interest in social problems, with documentaries about blind prisoners (The Cell with a View, 1996) and young anorexia sufferers (Dreams and Death, 1998). In 2002 she made the documentary short Lessons of Hope, on the re-opening of the Kabul Art School. This also led to the subject of her new film: Latawce. Alongside her filmmaking, she is also a playwright and a theatre director.

Cash, a car and a mobile phone… as well as fish. A group of tough men from near Warsaw organize a new form of entertainment. Their customary meetings over alcohol and drugs start to include fights between aggressive aquarium fish, which are, of course, accompanied by bets for large sums of money. Such is the extent of this hobby that one of the characters hopes that his champion will contribute significantly to the purchase of a new Subaru.

In China, culture and the arts are very closely linked to people and their lives. The street life in Beijing is a 24-hour live show full of music, dance and sports. Over a period of a the author was observing Chinese life, collecting "road images", documenting quotidian performances. A city that's literally exploding, in early transition from the ancient to the modern, adding skyscrapers and other buildings at a breakneck pace, clearly in the process of preparing for hosting the -2008- Olympics."
He was born in Portugal in 1977. He studied Sound and Image in Portugal and in Amsterdam. In 2005 he moved to London to undertake the post-graduation Dance for the Screen at The Place - London Contemporary Dance School. Currently he lives and works between England and Portugal as a filmmaker/artist, sound designer, camera operator and editor. Since 2004 he has been creating film and video for international broadcast, galleries and film festivals. In 2006 he won the Young Creators - Video area, in 2007 The Red Mansion Art Prize and in 2008 the FNAC New Talent Award. Outside (2008)is his first documentary film.

Abiyot is one of several African long distance runners, trying to make a living and career in the US. Once he was a promising member of the Ethiopian national team, but two years ago he left his country to start a new life. Weekend after weekend, he races with fellow African athletes in road races, competing over a few hundred dollars of prize money. The film follows Abiyot as he prepares for an important race. His footsteps not only dictate the rhythm of his life, but also become the pervasive rhythm of the film.
Born in Stuttgart in 1973. Between 1995 and 1997 studied Medicine in Goettingen. From 1997 to 2003 also Cultural Anthropology at Humboldt University Berlin, and Medicine at Freie Universitaet Berlin. Since 2001 he works as a freelance journalist, cameraman and photographer. Between 2004 and 2007 he works as a medical doctor in Berlin. From 2007 to 2009 he studies at National Film and Television School (NFTS), Beaconsfield, UK, MA Documentary Direction. We will expel the roofless people, the Prague town hall announced officially. The Metropolitan Police teams were put into the action to work all days and nights long and Prague officials started with the rhetoric of tidiness of the public space. The roofless man Jan Horváth is trying to survive in the city which became that hostile. He is refusing from offered social services and finds himself to be out of the border of legality. Starring Prague Mayor, Metropolitan policemen and roofless people.
Born in 1980, he graduated from Sociology and Social Policy-Social Work. Nowadays he studies Documentary Filmmaking at FAMU Prague, cooperates with the television and is preparing documentary project in Zambia. His films reflect topics of modern economy, power and domination, as is the case with Trvalé Bydlište Praha (2008).

Lived on a few continents, settled back in Belgrade, fought a war, worked for 5 years for top-level international media, understood some things and dedicated the rest of his life to his family, football and creative documentaries. Thirty something Bendix Freutel has no wife and no job in real life, but he has created a full and fulfilling life through his avatar on Second Life, a virtual 3-D world on the Internet.
Born in 1980 in Arlesheim. In 2002 she receives her Teaching degree. Between 2002 and 2004 she works as a primary teacher. In the school year 2004-2005 she attends a preparatory course at the Schule für Gestaltung in Basel. In 2008 she receives BA Video from the HSLU (Hochschule Luzern, Kunst und Design).
