Judith Colell was born in Barcelona in 1968. Graduated in History of Art and Certificate in Film from New York University. She directed feature films such as Nosotras (2001), awarded at Sitges, Lorca and Vitoria Film Festivals among others; 53 Days of Winter (2007) presented at San Sebastian Film Festival, Best Actress at Toulouse Film Festival and nominated for 10 Barcelona awards and Elisa K (2010), that won the special Jury Award at San Sebastian Film Festival, Special Jury Mention at Nantes, National Prize of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya, nominated to 5 Gaudis and 1 Goya for Best Adapted Screenplay among other awards .

She also directed for television the feature films Positius (2008), Fragments (2003), Radiacions (2012) and L’últim ball de Carmen Amaya (2014). She was Vice-President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Spain from 2011 to 2015 and is currently a member of its board. She is Director of the Film Department and Professor of Film Making at Blanquerna, Ramon Llull University in Barcelona.
