World Cinema FundAward Pepe Escriche - 2010
In order to preserve the memory of its founder, PEPE ESCRICHE, the Huesca Film Festival Foundation unanimously agreed and thus created, in 2008, an award carrying his name. In function of the personality and way of thinking that Pepe Escriche was well renown for, the aim of this award is to acknowledge those works that promote understanding amongst different cultures through films, and can be awarded to, following these guidelines, to entities, institutions, or people related to filmmaking and audiovisual arts. Consequently, on May 15, 2010, the members of the Huesca Film Festival Foundation (Angel Garcés, Montserrat Guiu, Begoña Gutiérrez, Domingo Malo and Lázaro Venéreo) unanimously agreed to award the 2010 Pepe Escriche Award to the WORLD CINEMA FUND, which forms part of the Berlin International Film Festival and in cooperation with the German Federal Cultural Foundation, for its support and financial aid to filmmakers from transition countries where feature films and documentary production is low or rarely exists. The Award consists of a sculpture in the form of a razor, in memory of Luis Buñuel’s short film Un perro andaluz. It was created by Isidro Ferrer, an artist and resident of Huesca. Isona Admetlla, member of the World Cinema Fund, located in Berlin, came to collect the 2010 Pepe Escriche Award on their behalf.
