Huesca Film Festival Foundation members, with the aim of perpetuating the memory of our founder PEPE ESCRICHE, unanimously approved in 2008 the creation of an award named after him.
Based on Pepe Escriche’s character and ideology, the concept behind this award is the recognition of efforts devoted to understanding among different cultures through cinema, and will be given to entities, institutions, people or different events related to cinema and audiovisual arts.
On 28th April 2009, Huesca Film Festival Foundation members, Angel Garcés, Montserrat Guiu, Begoña Gutiérrez, Alberto Sánchez, Lázaro Venéreo and its president Domingo Malo held a meeting and UNANIMOUSLY decided to give the Award Pepe Escriche 2009 to the INTERNATIONAL FILM AND TELEVISION SCHOOL “SAN ANTONIO DE LOS BAÑOS” in Havana, Cuba, for its constant work and enormous efforts to favour the dialogue between very different cinematographies. Our Foundation recognizes the excellence of the work carried out by the School from its very start with the so-called New Latin American Cinema. Besides, this award pays a tribute to a school of artistic education which has put into practice a particular philosophy: the teaching of film not by professional teachers but from active filmmakers, able to pass on their knowledge backed up by practice and experience in constant updating. A perspective that links, with an innovative and highly creative character, Iberoamerican and European cinema.
The Award is embodied by a sculpture designed by Isidro Ferrer, an internationally recognized artist, and honoured in Spain with the National Design Award in 2002 and National Illustration Award in 2006.
The Award will be presented in a ceremony previous to the film screening of 7th June in Teatro Olimpia at 22:30.
The award will be picked up by TANYA VALETTE, Headmaster of the International Film and Television School “San Antonio de los Baños” in Havana (Cuba), who comes to Huesca expressly to receive the award. |
