POLLIO, Juan Ignacio

Since 2005 he is studying Film Directing at the University of Cinema in Buenos Aires, Argentina. During the first two years, he worked as an assistant director in several short films in 16 mm. In 2007 he directed to short films El Ayunador and El Boxeador, which he finished in 2008.

The memories of a musician who lives in an old house in the centre of a big city seem to come to life. A girl, Matilda, discovers an old photograph of the house and decides to enter it to solve the mystery.

GIOVINE, Simone

Born in Torino (Italy) in 1983. Between 2002 and 2004 he frequents Multidams at Torino University. In 2002 he takes part in a seminar on social documentary technique with Eric Gandini, and in 2003 another on photography directing in Bologne with Gianfilippo Corticelli. In 2004 he moved to Rome, where he attended a photography workshop with Andrea Calabresi (Gruppo Nuova Fotografia) and worked as an assistant director of photography. In 2005 he moved to Barcelona where he also worked in Tom Tykwer’s film The Perfume. In 2006 he entered the University of Cinema in Buenos Aires. That same year he directed a short film in a little village in the South East of Brazil, Ponta Negra. He is still living in Buenos Aires where he works in the writing of a feature film which will be produced by the University of Cinema.

PIMENTEL, Marcos

(Brazil, 1977) A documentary filmmaker trained at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión de San Antonio de los Baños (EICTV – Cuba) and specialized in Documentary Cinema from the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, in Germany. He also has a degree in Social Communication in Brazil (UFJF) and Psychology (CES-JF). An independent director, scriptwriter and producer, he has made documentaries for film (in 35 mm. and 16 mm.), video and television, which have won 62 prizes in national and international festivals.

At the end of a tough workweek an assistant congressman and his friend go to an abandoned room in the Capitol building to relax and smoke a joint.  While trying to unwind the assistant congressman complains about his job. He’s doing all he can to try to cover up his boss’ scandalous sex affair but nothing seems to be working.  “Things can’t get any worse”, he says. . . but they do!

CABRAL, César

Graduated in Cinema and Video from the Superior School of Communication and Arts at the University of São Paulo, he has been, since 1997, working in the animation cinema industry. In 1998, while still in college, he finished his first short film, Shpluph. Since then, he directed and animated many different commercials and also produced the television series “Caquinhas” and co-directed documentaries for SESCTV and Itaú Cultural in Brazil. His latest work is the short film Dossiê rê Bordosa which mixes stop motion animation techniques with documentary.

He studied Film in the Faculty Estácio Sá. He is the planner of the rental videostore agency Cavídeo, specialized in film of art that became a reference for movie buffs. It helped to create diverse film clubs. In 2000 he wrote and produced his first short film, Sem Sáidoa. In 2001, in partnership with the Theatrical Group "The Dezequilibrados" he wrote and produced O Mundo de Andy. In his filmography as a producer we could also mention Sou Rocinha Hip Hop (2003), 4 x Nós do Morro (2005), Neguinho e Kika (2006) and As Cotias do Campo de Santana (2008).

LINS, Arthur

He started his film career when he has 19 making the short film Pálida Luna. In 2006 he directed and produced, together with Ely Marques, the documentary film Un Hacedor de Películas, awarded prizes in various audiovisual festivals in Brazil. Thanks to the prizes awarded, they continued their collaboration and made El Plan del Perro, shot in 16 mm. Arthur is a cultural producer for University Televisión. O plano do cachorro (2009) in their latest film so far.

MARQUES, Ely

She graduated in ‘Art and Media’ and makes video works since 2001. In 2006 she directed and produced, together with Arthur Lins, the documentary film Un Hacedor de Películas, awarded prizes in various audiovisual festivals in Brazil. Thanks to the prizes awarded, they continued their collaboration and made El Plan del Perro, shot in 16 mm. Ely works as a freelance editor. O plano do cachorro (2009) in their latest film so far.

Absent (2008) is his fourth short film and has been nominated to the Best Short Film at Gaudí Awards given by Catalonian Film Academy. He presently combines his cinematographic activities with advertisement.

He made a Master in Animation at the Royal College of Art in London where he graduated in 2005. Since then he works in the animation TV series Pocoyo. His filmography includes three animation short films: My grandmother (2004), About Sofia (2005) y Daniel’s journey (2009).

Born in 1972, he got a degree in Psychology from the University of Valencia in 1998, since 2004 he works as an air traffic controller. He wrote and directed him first short film in 2006, Las superficies reflectantes, screened at festivals such as Cinema Jove in Valencia. Dejar a Marcos is his second short film, and at the time he is writing the script of his first feature film.

HERMES, Iván

Born in Madrid in 1976, after over ten years working as an actor in many productions for television (Al salir de clase, Vientos de agua), films (Slam, Lena) and theatre plays (Roberto Zucco, Hamlet, or The tempest all of them directed by Lluis Pasqual), two years ago he made the jump to direction, directing for the stage Mario Benedetti’s Pedro y el capitán. The experience allowed him to discover his interest, only half satisfied as an actor, to tell stories. ORTIZ, Paula

She is a graduate in Hispanic Philology. She made her doctoral thesis about Script. She specialized with a Master in Film and TV Scriptwriting at the UAB. She also trained in film writing and directing at Tisch School NYU (New York) and UCLA (Los Angeles). She worked as a scriptwriter for the children’s educative series Hoobs Enciclopedia, produced by Editorial Planeta, Mízar Multimedia and Jim Henson´s Company. Up to now, she has written and directed three short films: El rostro de Ido (2003), Fotos de familia (2005) and El hueco de Tristán Boj (2008).

PEINADO, Francisco

A bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Seville, he has worked as a professional animator for fifteen years in different projects. He has worked in the animation of feature films such as El Embrujo del Sur, Aida or Los Tres Reyes Magos, television series as Las Tres Mellizas and projections for museums and events. Also in short films such as Manipai (Nominated to Goya awards in 2003) or La Dama en el Umbral, in television programmes and commercials. With his short film El Príncipe de las Basuras (2008) he makes his debut as a director, scriptwriter and producer. He is presently working in his second short film, La Sombra del Bambú which mixes traditional animation techniques, 3D and digital painting.

A Bachelor of Hispanic Philology from the University of Zaragoza. A graduate from the ECAM (Escuela de Cinematografía y del Audiovisual de la Comunidad de Madrid), in the specialty of photography for film. Trained in script writing at International Film and Television School (EICTV) in Cuba and at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Master of Film and TV script). For some years she has worked as a freelance in advertising and television. She presently works as a scriptwriter for television. After taking part in over 50 short films in the photography department, in 2005 made her debut as a director with the short film Sonrisas, awarded prizes in several festivals. When he was 17 he was selected for the first Film Directing Workshop directed by Bigas Luna. The director offers him to go on training by his side and they work together in many projects, for over five years, including the role of Assistant Director for the feature film Son de Mar. Meanwhile he has worked for different companies such as Lolafilms, Camper, Enric Miralles Bt and Telecinco. Born in Madrid in 1971. She is a bachelor in Information Sciences from the Complutense University in Madrid. She has studied scriptwriting with Daniela Fejerman and Agnés Jaoui. She works as a scriptwriter for Televisión Española, in the programme Cámara Abierta in la2. She has dictated courses on television series scriptwriting and she is the author of the book Cómo crear una serie de televisión (Ediciones T&B) together with Gonzalo Toledano, the creator of MIR and Lobos. CHAPERO JACKSON, Eduardo

Born in Madrid in 1971 from a Spanish father and North American mother. Between 1989 and 1996 he studied Fine Arts and Film in New York. He returned to Spain to work as a freelance and he exhibited his photographic works. In 1997 he joined Sogecine where he worked as a production coordinator and manager of script development. He left the company in 2005 to devote to several projects, among them Contracuerpo, his first short film. In 2007 he made his second short film, Alumbramiento, which was premiered at La Biennale in Venice, being awarded the Prize UIP to the Best European Short Film and lately the prize to the Best Fiction Short Film in 2007, awarded by European Film Academy. Born in Salamanca in 1982. He started his studies of Audiovisual Communication at the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca and was given an Erasmus Grant to study in Munich (Germany) at the University Ludwig-Maximiliam. Back in Spain he finished his bachelor at the University Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, a city that opened his eyes to the art of cinema. In 2006 he won a grant of “La Caixa” Foundation to study a Film Directing Master at the University of California in Los Angeles. His first short film in English, The breakfast included the actress Cherry Jones, the winner of two Tony awards. His film Portrait of a Couple was selected at the International Short Film Festival of Palm Springs. A man is stranded in the midst of an arid and lonely highway. He goes into the desert to look for help and starts to see mirages. Increasingly overcome by heat and thirst, he struggles to maintain his link to reality and get out of there; but the desert, like a living being, disorients him and confuses him with simulations that resemble reality more and more.

GONZÁLEZ MELLO, Flavio

He works in cinema, television, theatre and narrative. With the film Domingo siete, which he wrote and directed, he won in 1996 the prize Ariel to the Best Medium-Length Fiction Film awarded by Mexican Academy of Film Sciences and Arts. He has also written and directed the short films En vivo (2002), El número 23 (2002) and Medalla al empeño (2004). He wrote the script for the feature film Pachito Rex (México, 2001) and several plays, among which we could mention 1822, el año que fuimos Imperio (2000) and Lascuráin, o la brevedad del poder (2005). He teaches script and direction at CUEC and CCC. In 2009 he has directed 40° a la sombra.

RAMÍREZ CORONA, Alejandro

Born in Mexico in 1977. A graduate in Social Communication from the Metropolitan Autonomous University with the documentary Rockdrigo, la ciudad del recuerdo 2001, which took part in national and international festivals. As a freelance he has made the documentary films Mundomatraca 2003, Alicia en el subterráneo 2004 and Salonisimo, Salón Victoria, En el camino 2007. He presently studies at the Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos in UNAM where he has directed the practice films Hace falta un buen Blues 2004, La Mujer Verde 2004, Facundo y los buses que cuelgan del cielo 2006 and his graduation film Goodbye Garibaldi 2008.

MEDINA, Juan José

Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, in 1974. He studied a the School of Plastic Arts from the University of Guadalajara, (1989-1994) and the School of Audiovisual Media also at the University of Guadalajara (1994-1996). He has participated in over thirty exhibitions both collective and individual. Thanks to the co-direction of the short film El octavo Día, la creación (2000) he obtained several prizes in national and international festivals. He has also participated in a dozen productions as animator and art director. In 2009 he has directed Jaulas.

MILLER ENCINAS, Elisa

A graduate of the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica. She professionally works as a continuity manager, casting director and art director. Ver llover (2006), her first short film as a director, won the Palm d’Or at Cannes Festival 2006. Roma (2008) is he second short film.

ARMELLA, Carlos

Born in Mexico City in 1978. He studied script writing in the "Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica" (CCC), and then studied filmmaking in the London Film School from which he graduated with the short film A Dead End Story. He was selected for the 2003 Venice Film Festival with another short film called Poem. After his return to Mexico he got involved with the documentary feature Toro Negro. In 2008 he directed Tierra y pan, Golden Lion in the section Corto Cortissimo of Venice Film Festival 2008.

A night watchman spends the time in a basketball court throwing a ball into the basket. He has become an expert. His ego rises when he shows his abilities to a simple cleaning employee, who also like him, is there all night.

ROCHA, Nuno

Born in May, 1977 in Porto. In 2007 he finished a degree in Audiovisual Communication at the Instituto Politécnico do Porto. As a student, he wrote and directed his first short film Stone Crib, winning prizes in Portugal and abroad, with attendance at important festivals such as the Fantasporto and the Curtas Vila do Conde IFF. He moved to Lisbon at the beginning of 2008, where he joined the advertising world. In 2009 he comes with a new short film entitled 3x3 which has won the grand prize "Zon Creativity in Multimedia". Currently he is preparing two new projects, a new short film and his first feature film.

A father and a son. The father must be about 70 years old, the son a little over 20. The son takes the father to the hospital. The radio plays classical music. Mozart’s Exultate, Jubilate sung by Teresa Stich-Randall. The father didn’t know the son liked classical music and the son didn’t know that would be the last conversation he would ever had with his father. But Mozart asks for the souls to be happy and for men to rejoice.

SILVA MELO, Jorge

He started as a Cinema critic in 1967 at the magazine O Tempo e O Modo. He studied at the London Film School. He was the founder and director, together with Luis Miguel Cintra, of Teatro da Cornucópia. He made his internship in Berlin with Peter Stein and in Milan with Giorgio Strehler. He is the author of the libretto of Le Château dês Carpathes (based in Jules Verne) by Philippe Hersant, and several theatre plays. Founded in 1995 the society Artistas Unidos where he is the director. Performed as an actor in films by Paulo Rocha, João César Monteiro, João Botelho, Manuel de Oliveira, Bruno Bayen and Christine Laurent. He works as a translator, writer and stage director. In 2008 he wrote and directed the short film A Felicidade.

A Bachelor of Social Communication, in the specialty of Audiovisual Journalism. She graduated in Film Directing at the International Film and Television School San Antonio de los Baños (EICTV), Havana, Cuba. She also has a degree in Documentary Direction from the Filmakademie de Badem Wurttemberg, Ludwisburg, Germany. In 2008 she wrote and directed the fiction short film Perolita.
